33-year old Pau Gasol will be moving from power forward to center for the 2013-14 season to replace Dwight Howard, who left the Lakers to sign with the Houston Rockets. Gasol played in 49 games (42 starts) for the Lakers last year and he averaged 33.8 minutes, 13.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game. Gasol has now played in 369 games (362 starts) in his first six years with the Lakers and he averaged 36.4 minutes, 17.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per game. Gasol is now #10 in offensive rebounds (1,128), #9 in defensive rebounds (2,532) and #10 in blocked shots (515) in Lakers’ history. The Lakers are really going to need Gasol to stay healthy in 2013-14, as there isn’t likely going to be much depth behind him at center.
UPDATE: (7/8/2013) – Gasol will likely be staying at power forward now that the Lakers have signed Chris Kaman.
