33-year old small forward Metta World Peace has opted in for the 2013-14 season for the Lakers.  He will make $7,727,280 bucks for the Lakers next year.  World Peace played in 75 games (66 starts) for the Lakers last year and he averaged 33.7 minutes, 12.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game.  He has now played in 298 games (270 starts) in his first four years with the Lakers and he is averaging 31.1 minutes, 9.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game.  World Peace (a.k.a. Ron Artest) has now played in 902 games (832 starts) in his first 14 years in the NBA and he is averaging 33.6 minutes, 14.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.8 steals per game.

UPDATE:  (7/9/2013) – It appears that the Lakers are going to use the amnesty provision to let Metta World Peace go.  This will wind up saving the Lakers $21.5 million bucks overall due to World Peace’s salary combined with the NBA’s luxury tax.
