The Los Angeles Lakers look the same at point guard for this season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,NFL Blogs by alleyoop on Tuesday 22 September 2009 at 12:01 pm

35-year old Derek Fisher and 22-year old Jordan Farmar will man the point guard position for the Lakers this season. The veteran Fisher appears to have the edge in being the starter this season but Farmar expects to beat him out for the job. Time will tell who will start for the Lakers this season at the point. Derek Fisher played in 82 games for the Lakers last season and he averaged 29.8 minutes, 9.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Fisher does make big shots in big games so the Lakers will want him on the floor late in games. Farmar played in 65 games for the Lakers last season and he averaged 18.3 minutes, 6.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Farmar has a much larger upside than Fisher does but the Lakers will likely stick with the veteran for now.

The Los Angeles Lakers sign G/F Mickael Gelabale

The Lakers have signed 26-year old SG/SF Mickael Gelabale to a 1-year, non-guaranteed contract. Gelabale last played in the NBA during the 2007-2008 season with the Supersonics. He has now played in 109 games (14 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 15.6 minutes, 4.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. If Gelabale is healthy he will be able to help the Lakers off the bench.

Chinemelu Elonu decides to play in Spain instead of with the Los Angeles Lakers

Blogged under Big Lakers News,Bloglockers,Comings & Goings,Front Page,General,The Draft Report by alleyoop on Wednesday 16 September 2009 at 11:30 pm

The Lakers only pick in the NBA Draft Chinemelu Elonu has decided to play in Spain this season. He signed a two year deal to play overseas but he can get out of it after 1 year. Elonu wasn’t going to play much with the Lakers so this was a smart move for him.

The Los Angeles Lakers even look better than last season

It’s hard to believe but the Lakers have gotten even better over the summer. That’s because they signed SG/SF Ron Artest away from the Rockets. They lost Trevor Ariza to the Rockets in free agency and both players are being paid the same amount as this essentially looks like a trade that the Lakers won. The Lakers re-signed Kobe Bryant, Shannon Brown and Lamar Odom which will allow them to hit the court running when the NBA season begins. The Lakers released Sun Yue but he wasn’t going to get any minutes anyway. Chinemelu Elonu was picked up in the NBA Draft but he will be nothing more than a bench warmer this season.
