Chris Mihm’s season in jeopardy

Blogged under Front Page,Injuries by Nothing but Net on Sunday 12 November 2006 at 1:38 am

Chris Mihm has had more surgery to his injured ankle and will miss 5-8 months putting his season in jeopardy. Look for Andrew Bynum and Ronny Turiaf to get all of the minutes Mihm would have and they need to step up and take charge. Both of them have played well so far this season.

Centers

Kwame Brown will be the starter for the Lakers this season. Brown is a good rebounder and a decent defensive player when he wants to be and Phil Jackson will have to unlock that talent on a regular basis. Brown has averaged 7.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game over his NBA career.

Chris Mihm (who will be out for awhile with injury) has turned into a decent player with the Lakers. He has gotten tougher after getting pushed around early in his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mihm has averaged 8.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game over his career.

Andrew Bynum will get alot of minutes until Mihm returns. Bynum has excellent tools but he is a raw player. Bynum is being tudored by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and it has shown in his early play this season. Bynum only averaged 7.4 minutes per game as a rookie, scoring 1.6 points and grabbing 1.7 rebounds per game.

Small Forwards

It looks as if the Lakers are going to give Luke Walton an opportunity to start. Walton is a hustle-type player that is very fundamental in his approach to the game. Walton has averaged 3.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game over his career, but he really hasn’t gotten much playing time. Walton seems to play well without the ball, and with Bryant & Odom on the court alot of the time with him…he won’t get the ball much.

Vladimir Radmanovic will be the back-up and he will provide instant offense off of the bench for the Lakers. Radmanovic is a fine shooter (38.2% career 3-pointers) that will stretch the defense when he’s on the court. For his career, Radmanovic has averaged 10.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game.
