The Los Angeles Clippers will have a good bench in 2007-08

Cuttino Mobley will be the 6th man this season for the Clippers. He will provide instant offense off of the bench for the Clippers. He played in 78 games (73 starts) last season for the Clippers and he averaged 36.4 minutes, 13.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Ruben Patterson will team with Mobley to give the second unit on the Clippers firepower. He played in 81 games (53 starts) last season with the Bucks and he averaged 31.0 minutes, 14.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Patterson also shot an outstanding 54.8% from the floor last season. Point guard Brevin Knight might log as many minutes as the starter Sam Cassell will. Knight is a pure point guard who makes the players around him better. Knight played in 45 games (25 starts) last season with the Bobcats and he averaged 28.3 minutes, 9.1 points, 2.6 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Rookie first round pick Al Thornton will back up Tim Thomas and help fill the void left by Elton Brand. Dan Dickau will be the #3 point guard on the Clippers. He played in 50 games (3 starts) last season with the Trailblazers and he averaged 8.9 minutes, 3.3 points, 0.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Josh Powell was signed on to backup at both forward spots for the Clippers. He played in 37 games (0 starts) for the Warriors and Pacers and he averaged 9.5 minutes, 3.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. 2nd year center Paul Davis will back up Chris Kaman at center. He played in 31 games (0 starts) as a rookie and he averaged 5.8 minutes, 1.6 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.

The Los Angeles Clippers need their starting lineup to step up

Without Elton Brand for at least the first three months of the season the Clippers will need every one of their starters to step up. Sam Cassell might look like E.T. but he can still play when he’s healthy. Cassell is a shoot-first kind of point guard which contrasts in style with his backup Brevin Knight who is a pure point guard. Cassell played in 58 games (30 starts) last season for the Clippers and he averaged 24.3 minutes, 12.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. Quinton Ross will start this season and he will give the Clippers a lot of hustle and defense in the starting lineup. Ross played in 81 games (43 starts) and he averaged 21.0 minutes, 5.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. The Clippers will need small forward Corey Maggette to be selfish with the basketball because they need more scoring punch with Brand out. He will be up to the task. He played in 75 games (31 starts) last season for the Clippers and he averaged 30.5 minutes, 16.9 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Tim Thomas will start at power forward and he’s pretty soft. Thomas will need to get his share of rebounds or the the Clippers will be in trouble. Thomas played in 76 games (24 starts) last season for the Clippers and he averaged 27.0 minutes, 11.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Starting center Chris Kaman will need to be the enforcer in the paint until Elton Brand is ready to return. Kaman played in 75 games (66 starts) last season and he averaged 29.0 minutes, 10.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.5 blocks per game.

The Los Angeles Clippers release Yaroslav Korolev

The Clippers finally have gotten rid of Korolev who was a terrible first round pick of the past for the Clippers. The funny thing about them getting rid of Korolev is that he was playing decent in the pre-season. In 6 games he averaged 11.7 minutes, 4.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.3 steals per game. He also shot 40.9% from the floor and 75% from the free throw line. The Clippers won’t lose any sleep by getting rid of Korolev.
