26-year old righty Ernesto Frieri and 36-year old lefty Scott Downs have been giving the Angels an awesome pair of pitchers to close out games. Frieri came over in a deal with the Padres earlier this year and he has been awesome. Frieri has pitched in 24 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 0-0 with 10 saves, a 0.00 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP. Garrett Richards has been lights out for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Throwing Well by chinmusic on Monday 18 June 2012 at 9:27 am

24-year old righty starting pitcher Garrett Richards came into this season as the Angels’ #3 prospect according to Baseball America, and he’s showing why. Richards has pitched in 4 games (3 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Richards has only given up 13 hits in his first 21 innings for the Angels, while whiffing 17 batters, which is impressive. But, Richards has also walked 11 batters, so he needs to tighten up his control a bit. It will be interesting to see what the Angels do when Jered Weaver returns from the D.L. If Mike Scioscia decides to keep Richards in the starting rotation, Ervin Santana or Jerome Williams will be shifting to the bullpen. Williams has outpitched Santana so far this year, but he makes nowhere near the same kind of money.

Jered Weaver of the Los Angeles Angels tossed a no-hitter last night against the Twins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Throwing Well by chinmusic on Thursday 3 May 2012 at 9:13 am

The Angels jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first four innings last night, to ease pressure on starting pitcher Jered Weaver. Weaver then went out and finished up the 10th no-hitter in Angels’ history. He walked only 1 batter and he whiffed 9, as he was simply downright nasty last night. He threw 77 of 121 (63.6) pitches for strikes as he was pounding the strike zone all night long. He is now 4-0 on the year. Howie Kendrick led the way offensively for the Angels last night as he was 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs. It was nice to see that Jered Weaver’s parents were at the game and his dad was sucking down a beer in the 9th inning as he appeared more than a little nervous. It was a special night for all involved in Anaheim last night!
