Garrett Richards is off to a good start in 2013 for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by joelapinski on Monday 22 April 2013 at 9:31 am

24-year old righty Garrett Richards started the 2013 season in the bullpen, but he has been moved to the rotation to replace Jered Weaver (who is injured).  Richards has done a very good job in his first two starts for the Angels this year as he is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA and a 0.60 WHIP.  Richards has only given up 5 hits and 3 walks while whiffing 9 batters in his first 13 1/3 innings this year.  He has now pitched in 6 games (2 starts) overall this year for the Angels and he is 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA and a 0.68 WHIP.  The Angels hope that Richards keeps up the good work as the Angels’ rotation needs all of the help that it can get this year.

Zack Greinke has been awesome in September for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Saturday 29 September 2012 at 11:42 am

28-year old righty starting pitcher Zack Greinke has been awesome for the Angels in September. He has started 5 games for the Angels so far this month and he is 3-0 with a 1.53 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP. Greinke has now pitched in 12 games (all starts) for the Angels and he is 6-2 with a 3.40 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. Greinke has pitched in 33 games (all starts) overall this year for the Brewers and Angels in which he is 15-5 with a 3.42 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. Look for the Angels to make a strong push to re-sign Greinke over the winter.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Monday 24 September 2012 at 11:25 am

31-year old lefty starting pitcher C.J. Wilson was horrible in August for the Angels, starting 6 games in which he was 1-2 with a 7.99 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP. But, he has turned things around so far in September, starting 4 games in which he is 2-1 with a 3.54 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He has now pitched in 32 games (all starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 12-10 with a 3.82 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. Wilson has been solid overall this year, but the Angels were expecting more out of him when they signed him last winter.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 18 September 2012 at 3:00 pm

32-year old righty starting pitcher Dan Haren has been a major disappointment overall this year for the Angels, but he is pitching well in September so far. Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 11 September 2012 at 3:06 pm

27-year old righty reliever Ernesto Frieri has been a godsend for the Angels this year. He has pitched in 46 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 3-0 with 18 saves, a 1.96 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. Frieri has only given up 21 hits and he has walked 27 batters while whiffing an amazing 75 batters in only 46 innings for the Angels this year! He has now pitched in 57 games (0 starts) overall this year for the Padres and Angels and he is 4-0 with 18 saves, a 2.03 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP. Frieri is a big reason why the Angels are still in the playoff hunt.

The Los Angeles Angels have a lockdown pair of pitchers closing out games for them

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Thursday 5 July 2012 at 10:39 am

26-year old righty Ernesto Frieri and 36-year old lefty Scott Downs have been giving the Angels an awesome pair of pitchers to close out games. Frieri came over in a deal with the Padres earlier this year and he has been awesome. Frieri has pitched in 24 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 0-0 with 10 saves, a 0.00 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP. He has only given up 7 hits in 24 1/3 innings while whiffing 42 batters, which is outstanding. He has walked 15 batters so far this year, so he’s a little wild, but it hasn’t hurt him yet. Scott Downs has pitched in 30 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 1-0 with 7 saves, a 0.32 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He has only given up 21 hits and 6 walks in his first 28 innings this year with 18 whiffs. The Angels hope the Frieri and Downs keep up the outstanding work in the second half of the 2012 season.

Jason Isringhausen has been looking good for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Saturday 23 June 2012 at 8:12 am

39-year old righty reliever Jason Isringhausen is proving that he still has a lot left in the gas tank this year. He has pitched in 8 games (0 starts) so far in June and he is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and a 0.55 WHIP. Isringhausen gave up only 2 hits in his first 7 1/3 innings this month, which is pretty darn impressive. He has now pitched in 27 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 1.73 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP. Isringhausen is tied for 22nd in major league history with Hall of Famer Bruce Sutter with 300 career saves, which is pretty impressive. The Angels hope that Isringhausen keeps up the good work out of the pen in 2012.

Garrett Richards has been lights out for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Monday 18 June 2012 at 9:27 am

24-year old righty starting pitcher Garrett Richards came into this season as the Angels’ #3 prospect according to Baseball America, and he’s showing why. Richards has pitched in 4 games (3 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Richards has only given up 13 hits in his first 21 innings for the Angels, while whiffing 17 batters, which is impressive. But, Richards has also walked 11 batters, so he needs to tighten up his control a bit. It will be interesting to see what the Angels do when Jered Weaver returns from the D.L. If Mike Scioscia decides to keep Richards in the starting rotation, Ervin Santana or Jerome Williams will be shifting to the bullpen. Williams has outpitched Santana so far this year, but he makes nowhere near the same kind of money.

He has whiffed a stunning 40 batters in only 21 2/3 innings so far this year. The Angels hope he keeps up his wizardry over batters.

36-year old lefty reliever Scott Downs has really adjusted well to his new role as the Angels’ closer.
