The Los Angeles Angels have placed 26-year old righty swinging CF Peter Bourjos on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left hamstring.  Bourjos has played in 22 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 26 for 79 (.329 avg, .860 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers, 8 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  Bourjos has now played in 321 games in his first four years with the Angels and he is 236 of 930 (.254 avg, .716 OPS) with 129 runs scored, 23 homers, 85 RBIs and 36 stolen bases.  This is a bad break for Bourjos, as he has really been swinging a hot stick so far this year.  Mike Trout will slide over from LF to replace Bourjos in CF until he’s ready to return to action.

The Angels have placed 30-year old lefty reliever Sean Burnett on the 15-day disabled list due to left forearm irritation.  Burnett has pitched in 11 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 1.04 ERA anda  1.39 WHIP.  Burnett has given up 8 hits and he has walked 4 batters while whiffing 7 batters in his first 8 2/3 innings pitched.  The Angels hope that Burnett is ready to return in a couple of weeks as he has been a huge asset to the pen so far this year.

The Los Angeles Angels place Mark Lowe on the D.L.

The Angels have placed 29-year old righty reliever Mark Lowe on the 15-day disabled list due to neck stiffness.  I’m not surprised as his neck stiffness is likely due to whiplash with the way he has been pitching so far in 2013.  He has pitched in 7 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 1-0 with a 11.37 ERA and a 1.90 WHIP.  Lowe has given up only 4 hits and he has whiffed 6 batters in his first 6 1/3 innings for the Angels this year, but he has walked 8 batters which has gotten him into a lot of trouble so far.  Hopefully his control problems were because of his neck, as he has a really good arm.

The Angels have placed 30-year old switch-hitting 3B Alberto Callaspo on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 11th due to right calf tightness.  Callaspo has played in 9 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 9 for 33 (.273 avg, .745 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs.  25-year old righty swinging rookie Luis Jimenez will continue to start at 3B until Callaspo is ready to return to action.  He has played in 5 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 7 for 16 (.438 avg, 1.096 OPS) with 3 runs scored.

The Angels have placed 29-year old switch-hitting SS Erick Aybar on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 10th due to a bruised heel.  Aybar has played in 7 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 9 for 28 (.321 avg, .726 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 0 homers and 1 RBI.  32-year old righty swinging Brendan Harris and 27-year old lefty swinging Andrew Romine will likely share P.T. at SS until Aybar is ready to return to action.  Harris has played in 7 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 3 for 12 (.250 avg, .536 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 0 homers and 1 RBI.  Romine has played in 5 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 0 for 7 (.000 avg, .000 OPS).  The Angels hope that Aybar is able to return to action in a couple of weeks, because they are really going to miss him while he’s out of action.

The Los Angeles Angels lose Jered Weaver for the next 4-6 weeks

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Tuesday 9 April 2013 at 10:11 pm

The Angels have lost 30-year old righty starting pitcher Jered Weaver for the next 4-6 weeks due to a broken left elbow.  He was injured trying to avoid a line drive the other night.  He has pitched in 2 games (both starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.  Weaver has now pitched in 209 games (all starts) in his first 8 years with the Angels and he is 102-53 with a 3.25 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.  24-year old righty Garrett Richards will replace Weaver in the starting rotation.  He has pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 2.08 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 41 games (12 starts) in his first three years with the Angels and he is 4-5 with 1 save, a 4.74 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP.  Richards will be replaced in the bullpen by 30-year old righty Dane De La Rosa, who has been summoned from AAA-ball to replace Weaver on the active roster.  De La Rosa has pitched in 2 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Angels so far this year and he was 0-0 with 1 save, a 0.00 ERA and a 0.00 WHIP.  The Angels are really going to miss Weaver as he has been the anchor of their starting rotation for quite a while now.  The Angels hope that Richards can step up while Weaver is out of action, as he does have a nice upside.

The Los Angeles Angels lose Brandon Sisk for the year

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries by joelapinski on Monday 18 March 2013 at 7:23 am

The Angels will be without 27-year old lefty reliever Brandon Sisk for the 2013 season as he needs Tommy John surgery.  Sisk came to the Angels in the Ervin Santana trade with the Royals over the winter.  Sisk pitched in 50 games (0 starts) in AAA-ball for the Royals last year and he was 3-2 with 8 saves, a 2.54 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 198 games (9 starts) in his first five years in the minors and he is 20-18 with 42 saves, a 2.59 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.  This is a bad break for Sisk, as he was likely going to get a shot to pitch for the Royals at some point in 2013.

The Los Angeles Angels shut down 1B C.J. Cron for the rest of 2012

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Injuries,The Minors by chinmusic on Thursday 30 August 2012 at 8:14 am

22-year old righty swinging 1B C.J. Cron has been shut down for the rest of the season as he needs surgery to repair his labrum in his right shoulder. He injured it in high school and played his first two years as a pro with a bum shoulder. That makes the numbers he put up all the more impressive. Cron played in 129 games in A-ball this year for the Angels and he was 154 of 525 (.293 avg, .843 OPS) with 73 runs scored, 27 homers, 123 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Cron has now played in 163 games in his first two years in the minors and he is 198 of 668 (.296 avg, .877 OPS) with 103 runs scored, 40 homers, 164 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Cron came into this season as the Angels’ #5 prospect according to Baseball America. Imagine what he’s going to do next year when he’s finally healthy.
