The Los Angeles Angels have placed 25-year old righty starting pitcher Nick Tropeano on the 15-day disabled list due to a UCL tear in his right elbow. He will likely need Tommy John surgery! This is another tough blow for the Angels. Tropeano pitched in 13 games (all starts) for the Angels this year and he was 3-2 with a 3.56 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. He has given up 70 hits (14 homers) and 31 walks while whiffing 68 batters in his 68 1/3 innings this year. Tropeano has now pitched in 21 games (20 starts) in his first two years with the Angels and he is 6-4 with a 3.65 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. The Angels have called up 27-year old lefty reliever Jose Alvarez to replace Tropeano on the active roster. Alvarez pitched in 40 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the Angels and he was 1-2 with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP. He has now pitched in 106 games (0 starts) in his first three years with the Angels and he is 5-5 with a 3.78 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.
