29-year old righty starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker of the Los Angeles Angels is done for the season!  He was hit by a line drive off of the bat of Mariners’ 3B Kyle Seager and is caused a small skull fracture and a hematoma on the right side of his head.  He had emergency surgery last night.  Shoemaker pitched in 27 games (all starts) for the Angels this year and he was 9-13 with a 3.88 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP.  He gave up 166 hits and 30 walks while whiffing 143 batters in 160 innings pitched this year.  Shoemaker had a rough start to the season, as he started 5 games in April in which he was 1-4 with a 9.15 ERA and a 1.89 WHIP.  But, when he started using his split finger fastball a lot, his fortunes started to chance.  From May 1st on, Shoemaker pitched in 22 games (all starts) in which he was 8-9 with a 3.10 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.  Shoemaker has now pitched in 80 games (72 starts) in his first four years with the Angels and he is 32-27 with a 3.75 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.  Here’s hoping that Shoemaker has a complete recovery and can resume pitching for the Angels in 2017.

The Los Angeles Angels have placed 33-year old righty closer Huston Street on the 15-day disabled list due to knee inflammation.  Street has pitched in 26 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 3-2 with 9 saves, a 6.45 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP.  He has given up 31 hits (5 homers) and 12 walks while whiffing 14 batters in his first 22 1/3 innings for the Angels this year, so he has been getting hit really hard in 2016.  Since June 1st, Street has pitched in 16 games (0 starts) in which he is 1-2 with 4 saves, a 9.88 ERA and a 2.71 WHIP.  The Angels will likely turn to 24-year old righty Cam Bedrosian as their new closer moving forward.  Bedrosian has pitched in 43 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 0.92 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.  He has given up 28 hits and 11 walks while whiffing 48 batters in his first 39 innings this year for the Angels.  This is Bedrosian’s big chance to be a closer like his dad (Steve Bedrosian) was.
