The Los Angeles Angels place Nick Tropeano on the D.L.

The Los Angeles Angels have placed 25-year old righty starting pitcher Nick Tropeano on the D.L.  Tropeano has pitched in 10 games (all starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 3-2 with a 3.25 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP.  He has worked 55 1/3 innings so far this year for the Angels and he has given up 58 hits (8 homers) and 28 walks while whiffing 54 batters.  He has now pitched in 18 games (17 starts) in his first two years with the Angels and he is 6-4 with a 3.48 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP.  This is a big blow to the Angels, as they don’t have much rotation depth in the organization.

C.J. Cron is starting to heat up at the plate for the Los Angeles Angels

26-year old righty swinging 1B C.J. Cron got off to a slow start in April for the Los Angeles Angels, but he is heating up at the plate lately.  Since May 1st, Cron has played in 28 games for the Angels in which he is 27 of 96 (.281 avg) with 14 runs scored, 4 homers, 20 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  Cron has now played in 49 games overall so far this year for the Angels and he is 41 of 165 (.248 avg, .692 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 5 homers, 24 RBIs and 1 stolen base.  Cron is tied for 3rd in homers, #4 in RBIs and #5 in runs scored for the Angels so far this year.  The Angels desperately need Cron to keep up the good work at the plate.

The Los Angeles Angels call up Javy Guerra

The Los Angeles Angels have called up 30-year old righty reliever Javy Guerra.  Guerra pitched in 4 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the Angels and he was 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA and a 2.33 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 150 games (0 starts) in his first six years in the show and he is 6-9 with 30 saves, a 2.99 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP.  The Angels hope that Guerra is better for them the second time around.

The Los Angeles Angels have placed Cliff Pennington back on the D.L.

The Los Angeles Angels have placed 31-year old switch-hitting infielder Cliff Pennington back on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left hamstring.  Pennington has played in 27 games so far this year for the Angels and he is 16 of 58 (.276 avg, .740 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 1 homer and 6 RBIs.  Pennington only lasted 3 games this time before going back on the D.L.  In those three games, Pennington was 6 for 12 (.500 avg) with 2 runs scored, 0 homers and 1 RBI.  The Angels hope that Pennington can stay healthy a little longer the next time he comes off the D.L.

The Los Angeles Angels call up Jefry Marte

The Los Angeles Angels have called up 24-year old righty swinging 3B Jefry Marte.  Marte played in 3 games earlier this year for the Angels and he was 2 for 6 (.333 avg, 1.000 OPS) with 1 RBI.  He has now played in 36 games in his first two years in the show and he is 19 of 86 (.221 avg, .717 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 4 homers and 12 RBIs.  To make room on the roster for Marte, the Angels have sent 23-year old switch-hitting infielder Kaleb Cowart back to AAA.  Cowart played in 3 games for the Angels this time around and he was 1 for 6 (.167 avg, .333 OPS).  He has now played in 37 games in his first two years with the Angels and he is only 9 for 52 (.173 avg, .515 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 1 homer, 4 RBIs and 1 stolen base.

The Los Angeles Angels have activated Huston Street off the D.L.

The Los Angeles Angels have activated 32-year old righty closer Huston Street off the D.L.  Street pitched in 9 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the Angels and he was 1-0 with 5 saves, a 1.17 ERA and a 0.78 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 99 games (0 starts) in his first three years with the Angels and he is 5-5 with 62 saves, a 2.62 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP.  Street is already #18 in Major League history with his 320 career saves and only Francisco Rodriguez, Joe Nathan and Jonathan Papelbon have more saves than him among active pitchers!

The Los Angeles Angels call up Chris Jones

The Los Angeles Angels have called up 27-year old lefty starting pitcher Chris Jones.  Jones pitched in 9 games (all starts) in AAA-ball for the Angels this year and he was 3-4 with a 6.32 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP.  Jones has now pitched in 265 games (71 starts) in his first 10 years in the minors and he is 47-44 with 7 saves, a 3.54 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.  He will be working out of the bullpen initially for the Angels in his first taste of the majors.

UPDATE:  (6/1/2016) – The Angels have sent Chris Jones back to AAA.  He didn’t pitch for them this time around.

The Los Angeles Angels send Mike Morin to AAA

The Los Angeles Angels have sent 25-year old righty reliever Mike Morin to AAA.  Morin has pitched in 25 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 1-1 with a 5.48 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 132 games (0 starts) in his first three years with the Angels and he is 9-7 with 1 save, a 4.44 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.  Morin will likely be back with the Angels at some point in 2016.

The Los Angeles Angels have designated 27-year old righty reliever Deolis Guerra for assignment.  Guerra pitched in 3 games (0 starts) for the Angels this year and he was 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA and a 0.56 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 13 games (0 starts) in his first three years in the majors and he is 2-0 with a 6.55 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP.  The Angels won’t miss Guerra much moving forward.

Garret Anderson was one of the best players in Los Angeles Angels’ history!

Lefty swinging outfielder Garret Anderson was one of the best players in the history of the Los Angeles Angels.  He played in 2,013 games in his 15 years with the Angels and he was 2,368 of 7,989 (.296 avg, .796 OPS) with 1,024 runs scored, 272 homers, 1,292 RBIs and 78 stolen bases.  He was an All-Star three times for the Angels and he won two Silver Slugger Awards.  Anderson also played in 36 games in the post-season for the Angels and he was 36 of 147 (.245 avg, .661 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 5 homers and 22 RBIs.  Anderson played in 7 games in the World Series in 2002 against the Giants (which the Angels won in 7 games) and he was 9 for 32 (.281 avg, .594 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 0 homers and 6 RBIs.  Anderson’s best year came in 2003, when he played in 159 games for the Angels in which he was 201 of 638 (.315 avg, .885 OPS) with 80 runs scored, 29 homers, 116 RBIs and 6 stolen bases.  Between 2000-2003, Anderson averaged 87.0 runs scored, 30.3 homers, 119.8 RBIs and 8.0 stolen bases per season!  Anderson is still the Angels’ all-time leader in games played (2,013), hits (2,368), runs scored (1,024), doubles (489) and RBIs (1,292)!  He is also still tied for #4 in batting average (.296), tied for #42 in OBP (.327), tied for 10th in SLG (.469), #16 in OPS (.796), #4 in triples (35), #2 in homers (272), #19 in stolen bases (78) and #10 in walks (397) in Angels’ history!
