The Los Angeles Angels have sent 24-year old righty reliever Cam Bedrosian to the minors.  Bedrosian pitched in 2 games (0 starts) for the Angels this year and he was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP.  He worked 2 innings for the Angels and he was all over the place, as he walked 2 batters and threw 2 wild pitches.  The Angels called up 27-year old righty reliever A.J. Achter to replace Bedrosian in the bullpen.  Achter came into the game last night for the Angels and he threw a scoreless inning, allowing no baserunners and whiffing a batter.  Coming into this season, Achter had pitched in 18 games (0 starts) in his first two years in the majors and he was 1-1 with a 5.18 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP.

The Los Angeles Angels have signed 36-year old lefty reliever Neal Cotts to a minor league deal.  Cotts pitched in 68 games (0 starts) for the Twins and Brewers last year and he was 1-0 with a 3.41 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP.  Cotts has now pitched in 483 games (5 starts) in his first 10 years in the show and he is 21-24 with 4 saves, a 3.96 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP.  Cotts will more than likely be pitching for the Los Angeles Angels early on in the 2016 season.  I really like this pickup for them.

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by joelapinski on Wednesday 30 March 2016 at 4:32 pm

The Cincinnati Reds have offered 25-year old lefty reliever Chris O’Grady back to the Los Angeles Angels.  The Reds took him in the Rule 5 Draft.  O’Grady pitched in 45 games (0 starts) in AA+AAA-ball for the Angels last year and he was 0-5 with 4 saves, a 3.28 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 127 games (7 starts) in his first four years in the minors (all with the Angels) and he is 10-13 with 9 saves, a 3.21 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.  The Angels have a weak farm system, so they should take O’Grady back from the Reds.

UPDATE:  (3/31/2016) – The Angels have accepted O’Grady back from the Reds.

The Los Angeles Angels sign Kyle Kendrick

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by joelapinski on Wednesday 30 March 2016 at 4:28 pm

The Los Angeles Angels have signed 31-year old righty starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick to a minor league deal.  He pitched in 2 games (both starts) for the Braves in spring training and he was 0-2 with a 22.09 ERA and a 4.64 WHIP before being cut by them early.  He pitched in 27 games (all starts) for the Rockies last year and he was 7-13 with a 6.32 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 253 games (212 starts) in his first 9 years in the majors and he is 81-81 with a 4.63 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP.  If Kendrick makes a good early impression on the Angels, he could be starting with them in the near future.

The Los Angeles Angels have acquired Chris Jones from the Orioles

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Trades by joelapinski on Tuesday 29 March 2016 at 7:55 pm

The Los Angeles Angels have acquired 27-year old lefty reliever/starter Chris Jones from the Baltimore Orioles for 20-year old lefty swinging outfielder Natanael Delgado and 22-year old switch-hitting 2B/SS Erick Salcedo.  Jones pitched in 30 games (22 starts) in AAA-ball for the Orioles last year and he was 8-8 with a 2.94 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP.  He has now pitched in 256 games (62 starts) in his first nine years in the minors and he is 44-40 with 7 saves and a 3.35 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.  Jones will get a shot in the bullpen for the Angels at some point in 2016.  He might even be in the pen on Opening Day.  Delgado came into 2016 as the Angels’ #29 prospect according to Baseball America.  He played in 108 games in A-ball for the Angels last year and he was 99 of 411 (.241 avg, .631 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 6 homers, 46 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.  Salcedo played in 95 games in A+AA+AAA-ball for the Angels last year and he was 65 of 280 (.232 avg, .535 OPS) with 38 runs scored, 0 homers, 16 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.  The Angels made a good deal here, as Jones might be able to help them right away in 2016.

The Los Angeles Angels release Trevor Gretzky

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,The Minors by joelapinski on Sunday 27 March 2016 at 7:32 am

The Los Angeles Angels have released 23-year old lefty swinging 1B/OF Trevor Gretzky.  Gretzky played in 78 games in A-ball last year and he was 64 of 264 (.242 avg, .630 OPS) with 29 runs scored, 2 homers, 21 RBIs and 5 stolen bases.  He has played in 215 games in his first four years in the minors (never about A-ball) and he was 190 of 735 (.259 avg, .638 OPS) with 85 runs scored, 6 homers, 58 RBIs and 16 stolen bases.  This isn’t much of a loss for the Angels, as Gretzky didn’t show much in the minors for them.  And yes, he is the son of Wayne Gretzky!

The Los Angeles Angels acquire Troy Scribner from the Houston Astros

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by joelapinski on Sunday 27 March 2016 at 7:28 am

The Los Angeles Angels have acquired 24-year old righty starter/reliever Troy Scribner from the Houston Astros for cash considerations.  Scribner pitched in 29 games (13 starts) in A-ball last year and he was 2-6 with 1 save, a 5.49 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP.  He worked 100 innings last year and he only gave up 94 hits while whiffing 111 batters…..but he also walked 57 batters, which got him into a lot of trouble.  Scribner has now pitched in 63 games (31 starts) in his first four years in the minors and he is 16-13 with 2 saves, a 3.64 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.  This was a nice flier for the Angels to take, as Scribner appears to have good stuff….and he pitched well until last year.
