The Angels have acquired 27-year old righty swinging outfielder Collin Cowgill from the New York Mets for 23-year old righty swinging outfielder Kyle Johnson. Cowgill played in 23 games for the Mets earlier this year and he was 11 for 61 (.180 avg, .518 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 8 RBIs. Cowgill has now played in 97 games in his first three years in the majors and he is 61 of 257 (.237 avg, .605 OPS) with 25 runs scored, 4 homers, 26 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. The Angels have sent Cowgill to AAA, but he could be with them soon if he looks good there. Kyle Johnson played in 67 games in A-ball for the Angels this year and he was 76 of 245 (.310 avg, .839 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 2 homers, 30 RBIs and 30 stolen bases. Johnson played in 100 games in his two years in the minors for the Angels and he was 104 of 342 (.304 avg, .814 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 3 homers, 42 RBIs and 37 stolen bases. I like this deal for the Angels as Cowgill could help them later this year, while Johnson is a long way from his first shot at the show.
