The Angels have a quarter of rookies that could help them in 2013.  Here is a look at them:

Nick Maronde:  23-year old lefty reliever/starter Nick Maronde comes into this season as the Angels’ #2 prospect according to Baseball America.  He pitched in 12 games (0 starts) for the Angels in his first taste of the majors last year and he was 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.  He also pitched in 20 games (18 starts) in Rookie+A+AA-ball last year and he was 6-4 with a 2.26 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP.  Maronde has pitched in 31 games (29 starts) in his first two years in the minors and he is 11-4 with a 2.22 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.

Kole Calhoun:  25-year old lefty swinging outfielder Cole Calhoun comes into this season as the Angels’ #11 prospect according to Baseball America.  He played in 21 games for the Angels in his first taste of the majors last year and he was 4 for 23 (.174 avg, .457 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 0 homers, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base.  Calhoun also played in 105 games in AAA-ball last year and he was 122 for 410 (.298 avg, .877 OPS) with 79 runs scored, 14 homers, 73 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.  Calhoun has now played in 294 games in his first three years in the minors and he is 347 of 1,124 (.309 avg, .920 OPS) with 216 runs scored, 43 homers, 214 RBIs and 35 stolen bases.

Luis Jimenez:  25-year old righty swinging 3B Luis Jimenez comes into this season as the Angels’ #17 prospect according to Baseball America.  Jimenez played in 122 games in AAA-ball for the Angels last year and he was 150 of 485 (.309 avg, .829 OPS) with 78 runs scored, 16 homers, 85 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.  He has now played in 529 games in his first six years in the minors and he is 627 of 2,075 (.302 avg, .856 OPS) with 342 runs scored, 75 homers, 390 RBIs and 79 stolen bases.

Andrew Romine:  27-year old lefty swinging infielder Andrew Romine comes into this season as the Angels’ #21 prospect according to Baseball America.  He played in 12 games for the Angels last year and he was 7 for 17 (.412 avg, .912 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 0 homers, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base.  He also played in 87 games in AAA-ball last year and he was 100 of 351 (.285 avg, .726 OPS) with 57 runs scored, 4 homers, 39 RBIs and 23 stolen bases.  Romine has now played in 27 games in his first three years in the majors and he is 10 for 44 (.227 avg, .519 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 0 homers, 1 RBI and 2 stolen bases.
