The Los Angeles Angels have place Erick Aybar on the D.L.
The Los Angeles Angels have placed switch-hitting starting SS Erick Aybar on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 22nd due to a non-displaced fracture of his right big toe. Aybar has played in 91 games for the Rays so far this year and he is 84 of 327 (.257 avg, .666 OPS) with 32 runs scored, 4 homers, 28 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. Switch-hitting Maicer Izturis will take over as the starting SS until Aybar is ready to return to action. Izturis has played in 65 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 43 of 182 (.236 avg, .626 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 1 homer, 14 RBIs and 13 stolen bases. The Angels have called up 26-year old lefty swinging Andrew Romine to replace Izturis as the top backup infielder. Romine played in 4 games earlier this year for the Angels and he was 4 for 6 (.667 avg, 1.333 OPS) with 1 run scored.
