The Los Angeles Angels have acquired Zack Greinke from the Brewers
The Los Angeles Angels have acquired 28-year old righty starting pitcher Zack Greinke from the Milwaukee Brewers for 22-year old righty swinging shortstop Jean Segura, 23-year old righty starting pitcher Ariel Pena and 23-year old righty starting pitcher John Hellweg. Greinke pitched in 21 games (all starts) for the Brewers so far this year and he was 9-3 with a 3.44 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He has now pitched in 259 games (218 starts) in his first 9 years in the majors and he is 85-76 with 1 save, a 3.79 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP.
Jean Segura came into this season as the Angels’ #2 prospect according to Baseball America. He played in 1 game for the Angels this year and he was 0 for 3 (.000 avg) with 2 whiffs. Segura also played in 94 games in AA-ball for the Angels this year and he was 110 of 374 (.294 avg, .749 OPS) with 50 runs scored, 7 homers, 40 RBIs and 33 stolen bases. Ariel Pena came into this season as the Angels’ #9 prospect according to Baseball America. Pena pitched in 19 games (all starts) in AA-ball for the Angels this year and he was 6-6 with a 2.99 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. John Hellweg came into this season as the Angels’ #4 prospect according to Baseball America. Hellweg pitched in 21 games (all starts) in AA-ball for the Angels this year and he was 5-10 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP.
The Angels went all-in on this deal. They can now trot out Jered Weaver, Zack Greinke, C.J. Wilson and Dan Haren as their top four starting pitchers. No team in the A.L. can match that!
