23-year old righty starting pitcher Ariel Pena came into this season as the Angels’ #9 prospect according to Baseball America. He has pitched in 16 games (all starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 5-5 with a 2.95 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. He has only given up 82 hits and 35 walks in his first 94 2/3 innings in the minors this year while whiffing 93 batters… he has been impressive. Pena has now pitched in 108 games (100 starts) in his first six years in the minors and he is 44-26 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. Pena could be prime trade bait for the Angels at the trade deadline later this month.
