26-year old righty Ernesto Frieri and 36-year old lefty Scott Downs have been giving the Angels an awesome pair of pitchers to close out games. Frieri came over in a deal with the Padres earlier this year and he has been awesome. Frieri has pitched in 24 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 0-0 with 10 saves, a 0.00 ERA and a 0.90 WHIP. He has only given up 7 hits in 24 1/3 innings while whiffing 42 batters, which is outstanding. He has walked 15 batters so far this year, so he’s a little wild, but it hasn’t hurt him yet. Scott Downs has pitched in 30 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 1-0 with 7 saves, a 0.32 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP. He has only given up 21 hits and 6 walks in his first 28 innings this year with 18 whiffs. The Angels hope the Frieri and Downs keep up the outstanding work in the second half of the 2012 season.
