The Los Angeles Angels place Bobby Wilson on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Wednesday 6 June 2012 at 5:58 pm

The Angels have placed 29-year old righty swinging catcher Bobby Wilson on the 7-day disabled list due to a concussion. Wilson has played in 32 games for the Angels this year and he is 13 for 76 (.171 avg, .403 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 0 homers and 1 RBI. The Angels have called up 24-year old switch-hitting catcher Hank Conger to replace Wilson on the roster. Conger made his season debut with the Angels last night and he went 1 for 3 with a double. Conger also has played in 17 games in AAA-ball so far this year in which he was 25 for 74 (.338 avg, .872 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 2 homers, 11 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Conger has now played in 73 games in his first three years with the Angels and he is 43 for 209 (.206 avg, .629 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 6 homers and 24 RBIs. As long as Conger can stay healthy, he will likely be the Angels’ starting catcher until Chris Iannetta comes off the D.L.

29-year old righty swinging catcher Bobby Wilson is finally getting his chance to start behind the plate for the Angels due to Chris Iannetta’s injury and he has dropped the ball so far. Wilson has played in 31 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 13 for 76 (.171 avg, .403 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 0 homers and 1 RBI. Wilson has now played in 147 games in his first five years with the Angels and he is 58 for 294 (.197 avg, .558 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 5 homers and 25 RBIs. Wilson’s roster spot could be in jeopardy when either Hank Conger or Chris Iannetta get healthy, if he doesn’t start hitting the baseball quite a bit better than he is right now.
