Garrett Richards has been lights out for the Los Angeles Angels
24-year old righty starting pitcher Garrett Richards came into this season as the Angels’ #3 prospect according to Baseball America, and he’s showing why. Richards has pitched in 4 games (3 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 2-0 with a 0.86 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Richards has only given up 13 hits in his first 21 innings for the Angels, while whiffing 17 batters, which is impressive. But, Richards has also walked 11 batters, so he needs to tighten up his control a bit. It will be interesting to see what the Angels do when Jered Weaver returns from the D.L. If Mike Scioscia decides to keep Richards in the starting rotation, Ervin Santana or Jerome Williams will be shifting to the bullpen. Williams has outpitched Santana so far this year, but he makes nowhere near the same kind of money.
