The Los Angeles Angels place Jered Weaver on the D.L.
The Angels have placed 29-year old righty starting pitcher Jered Weaver on the 15-day disabled list due to a lower back strain. Weaver has pitched in 11 games (all starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 6-1 with a 2.61 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP. He has only given up 49 hits and 15 walks in 60 innings pitched so far this year, while whiffing 57 batters as he has been outstanding. The Angels have called up 24-year old righty starting pitcher Garrett Richards to replace Weaver in the starting rotation. Richards has pitched in 10 games (all starts) in AAA-ball for the Angels so far this year and he is 5-2 with a 4.31 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP. Richards got his first taste of the majors last year with the Angels when he worked in 7 games (3 starts) in which he was 0-2 with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.64 WHIP.
