The Angels will likely stash Diaz in AAA in 2012.

He played in 19 games for the Mariners last year and he was 9 for 52 (.173 avg, .664 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 3 homers an 6 RBIs. Langerhans has now played in 591 games in his first 9 years in the majors and he is 280 of 1,238 (.226 avg, .705 OPS) with 174 runs scored, 33 homers, 125 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. He is a good defensive outfielder, with some pop in his stick. The Angels will likely stash Langerhans in AAA when the 2012 season begins.

The Angels have signed 31-year old righty swinging 1B Albert Pujols to a 10-year, $254 million dollar deal. Pujols played in 147 games for the Cardinals last year and he was 173 of 579 (.299 avg, .906 OPS) with 105 runs scored, 37 homers, 99 RBIs and 9 stolen bases. He has now played in 1,705 games in his first 11 years in the majors and he is 2,073 of 6,312 (.328 avg, 1.037 OPS) with 1,291 runs scored, 445 homers, 1,329 RBIs and 84 stolen bases. Pujols’ trophy case is already pretty full as he has been the N.L. MVP three times! He also has been on 9 N.L. All-Star teams, won six Silver Slugger Awards and 2 Gold Gloves! This was an outstanding move for the Angels as Pujols is going to make every hitter in the lineup better.

The Los Angeles Angels sign C.J. Wilson

The Angels have signed 31-year old lefty starting pitcher C.J. Wilson to a 5-year, $75 million dollar contract. Wilson pitched in 34 games (all starts) for the Rangers last year and he was 16-7 with a 2.94 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He whiffed 206 batters in 223 1/3 innings last year while giving up 191 hits and walking only 74 batters. He really tightened up his control in his second season as a starting pitcher. Wilson has pitched in 325 games (73 starts) in his first 7 years in the majors and he is 43-35 with 52 saves, a 3.60 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. Wilson will probably be the Angels’ #3 starter between Dan Haren and Ervin Santana. The Angels’ rotation is stacked now! The Angels helped themselves while hurting the division rival Texas Rangers, so I love this move for them.

The Los Angeles Angels sign Latroy Hawkins

The Angels have signed 38-year old righty reliever Latroy Hawkins to a 1-year, $3 million dollar deal. Hawkins pitched in 52 games (0 starts) for the Brewers last year and he was 3-1 with a 2.42 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. He has now pitched in 823 games (98 starts) in his first 17 years in the majors and he is 63-85 with 87 saves, a 4.48 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. This was a good move for the Angels as Hawkins has been a solid reliever. His career numbers are skewed by the fact that he couldn’t handle being a starting pitcher early in his career.

The Los Angeles Angels deal Jeff Mathis to the Blue Jays

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by chinmusic on Sunday 4 December 2011 at 7:32 am

The Angels have traded 28-year old righty swinging catcher Jeff Mathis to the Toronto Blue Jays for 26-year old lefty starting pitcher Brad Mills. Mathis played in 93 games for the Angels last year and he was 43 of 247 (.174 avg, .484 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 3 homers, 22 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He played in 426 games in his 7 years with the Angels and he was 233 of 1,201 (.194 avg, .557 OPS) with 132 runs scored, 26 homers, 139 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Mathis became expendable after the Angels brought in Chris Iannetta in a deal with the Rockies earlier last week. Brad Mills pitched in 5 games (4 starts) for the Blue Jays last year and he was 1-2 with a 9.82 ERA and a 1.91 WHIP. He also pitched in 24 games (all starts) in AAA-ball last year and he was 11-9 with a 4.00 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Mills has now pitched in 14 games (9 starts) in his first three years in the majors and he is 2-3 with a 8.57 ERA and a 1.82 WHIP. A change of scenery might be just what the doctor ordered for Brad Mills, as he has been a pretty solid prospect despite his struggles so far in the major leagues.
