Mark Trumbo has turned in an outstanding rookie season for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Monday 26 September 2011 at 7:01 pm

25-year old righty swinging 1B Mark Trumbo got his first taste of the majors back in September of 2010 with the Angels. He played in 8 games for the Angels in 2010 and he was 1 for 15 (.067 avg, .192 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 0 homers and 2 RBIs. He also walked only 1 time while whiffing 8 times. So when Kendry Morales wasn’t ready to return this year from his ankle injury, the Angels decided to give Trumbo a look at 1B. He has taken the job and run with it. He has played in 149 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 137 for 539 (.254 avg, .768 OPS) with 65 runs scored, 29 homers, 87 RBIs an 9 stolen bases. Even if Morales comes back next year, Trumbo will be starting somewhere for the Angels.

Peter Bourjos has been very solid for the Los Angeles Angels in 2011

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 20 September 2011 at 2:50 pm

24-year old righty swinging CF Peter Bourjos has had a solid year with the bat for the Angels in 2011. But the reason I like watching him play is because of his awesome range in CF defensively. You have to hit the ball over the fence if you don’t want Bourjos to catch it. He has played in 138 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 124 for 469 (.264 avg, .745 OPS) with 67 runs scored, 11 homers, 38 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. He has now played in 189 games in his first two years in the majors and he is 161 for 650 (.248 avg, .710 OPS) with 86 runs scored, 17 homers, 53 RBIs and 31 stolen bases. Bourjos looks like he’s going to be the Angels’ CF for a long, long time.

Jordan Walden has been outstanding for the Los Angeles Angels this year

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 20 September 2011 at 2:46 pm

23-year old righty reliever Jordan Walden has had an excellent rookie season working as the Angels’ closer. Walden has pitched in 58 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 5-3 with 31 saves, a 2.41 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. He has only given up 42 hits (1 homer) while whiffing 63 batters in his first 56 innings, which is impressive. Walden has now pitched in 74 games (0 starts) for the Angels in his first two years with them and he is 5-4 with 32 saves, a 2.40 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. The future is very bright for Jordan Walden and the Angels are very excited about him.

Jerome Williams has been solid for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Wednesday 14 September 2011 at 5:15 pm

29-year old righty starting pitcher Jerome Williams has been solid since replacing rookie Tyler Chatwood in the starting rotation. Williams has pitched in 7 games (4 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 3-0 with a 3.90 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP. He has only given up 30 hits and 9 walks in his first 30 innings while also whiffing 23 batters, and those are impressive numbers. The baseball world has to be surprised at Williams’ success as he hasn’t pitched in the majors before now since the 2007 season with the Nationals.

Mike Trout is starting to help out for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Sunday 11 September 2011 at 10:39 am

19-year old righty swinging outfielder Mike Trout got off to a rough start to his major league career. But, in his last 15 games, Trout is 13 of 44 (.295 avg) with 11 runs scored, 4 homers and 8 RBIs. Trout has now played in 30 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 22 for 92 (.239 avg, .760 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 5 homers, 15 RBIs and 1 stolen base. The Angels need Trout to keep hitting when he’s in the lineup because they are right on the heels of the Rangers in the A.L. West.

Bobby Abreu is starting to lose it for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, In Need of a Slumpbuster by chinmusic on Tuesday 6 September 2011 at 5:07 pm

37-year old lefty swinging OF/DH Bobby Abreu is really slowing down at the plate. Since July 1st, Abreu is 33 for 171 (.193 avg) with 19 runs scored, 4 homers, 21 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. Abreu has played in 127 games overall this year for the Angels and he is 114 for 451 (.253 avg, .718 OPS) with 50 runs scored, 7 homers, 53 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. Abreu is starting to lose P.T. lately with outfielder Mike Trout ripping the baseball. Mike Scioscia will probably play the hot hand at DH in September, so Abreu better starting hitting soon or he’s going to be doing more watching than playing the rest of the year.
