23-year old righty rookie closer Jordan Walden will be heading to the All-Star Game next week as an injury replacement for Mariano Rivera. Walden started this season as a set-up man for Fernando Rodney, but he quickly replaced him as the closer and the rest they say…is history. Walden has pitched in 37 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 1-2 with 19 saves, a 2.95 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. He has only given up 28 hits in 36 2/3 innings so far this year and he has whiffed 39 batters, which shows how nasty he can be. But, he’s far from perfect as he has walked 17 batters so far this year. If Walden tightens up his control a tad, he will be one of the best closers in all of baseball.
