31-year old righty swinging SS/2B Gil Velazquez has been ripping the ball in AAA for the Angels. Velazquez has played in 67 games in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 79 for 225 (.351 avg, .898 OPS) with 35 runs scored, 4 homers, 38 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Velazquez hasn’t been known as much of a hitter until this season, so it might be the thin air of the PCL that’s the real reason for his pumped up numbers. He has played in 9 games in his major league career and he is 1 for 10 (.100 avg, .282 OPS) with 1 RBI. Velazquez is blocked on the Angels by more talented players in the infield, so he won’t likely get a chance in the majors unless the Angels suffer multiple injuries in the middle infield.
