The Los Angeles Angles place Francisco Rodriguez on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Thursday 12 May 2011 at 7:43 am

The Angels have placed 28-year old righty reliever Francisco Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list due to a shoulder problem. He has pitched in 10 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. The Angels have called up 26-year old righty reliever Kevin Jepsen to replace Rodriguez in the bullpen. Jepsen made a negative impact in his first game back with the Angels last night as he was the losing pitcher in extra innings against the White Sox when he gave up 2 earned runs in the 10th inning. Jepsen has now pitched in 6 games (0 starts) for the Angels so far this year and he is 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA and a 2.60 WHIP. If Jepsen doesn’t straighten up soon he’s going to have a short stay with the Angels this time around.

Mark Trumbo is doing a very solid job at 1B for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 10 May 2011 at 7:40 am

When Kendry Morales wasn’t ready to start this season, the Angels were very nervous. But, rookie 25-year old righty swinging Mark Trumbo is making the most of his opportunity to start for the Angels. Trumbo has played in 29 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 29 for 106 (.274 avg, .804 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 6 homers, 17 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He has been hacking at the plate as he has whiffed 28 times while only walking 4 times so far this year, but that’s nitpicking right now. Trumbo has solidified a roster spot even when Morales returns to action, based on his play so far this season. The Angels need him to keep up the good work as he has been one of the best power hitters on the team.

The Los Angeles Angels place Vernon Wells on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Tuesday 10 May 2011 at 7:36 am

The Angels have placed starting LF Vernon Wells on the 15-day disabled list due to a sore right groin. Wells has played in 34 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 25 for 140 (.179 avg, .520 OPS) with 18 runs scored, 4 homers, 13 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Rookie Alexi Amarista played LF last night. He has played in 7 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 2 for 14 (.143 avg, .402 OPS) with 3 RBIs. The Angels might be more likely to start Bobby Abreu in LF, move Mark Trumbo from 1B to DH and use Howie Kendrick at 1B instead of 2B. This would allow the Angels to play Maicer Izturis everyday at 2B with Alberto Callaspo at 3B. Losing Wells will probably hurt the Angels defensively but he was hitting so bad that the offense might actually improve while he’s healing up.

Mike Trout is off to a very fast start in the minors once again for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, The Minors by chinmusic on Thursday 5 May 2011 at 8:41 am

19-year old righty swinging outfielder Mike Trout came into this season as the Angels’ #1 prospect according to Baseball America. He is tearing it up in the minors once again as he keeps getting closer to L.A. Trout has played in 21 games in AA-ball so far this year and he is 25 for 79 (.316 avg, .936 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 4 homers, 10 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has now played in 196 games in his first three years in the minors and he is 261 for 766 (.341 avg, .917 OPS) with 152 runs scored, 15 homers, 93 RBIs and 73 stolen bases. Trout could get his first taste of the majors at some point this year.

Peter Bourjos is off to a good start this year for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 3 May 2011 at 8:13 am

24-year old righty swinging CF Peter Bourjos is off to a solid start for the Los Angeles Angels. Bourjos has played in 29 games for the Angels so far this year and he is 30 for 101 (.297 avg, .818 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 4 triples, 2 homers, 9 RBIs and 3 stolen bases (he has been caught 4 times). Bourjos has been hacking at the plate as he has whiffed 32 times while walking only 6 times. Bourjos looks much improved over 2010 for the Angels when he played in 51 games and was 37 for 181 (.204 avg, .618 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 6 homers, 15 RBIs and 10 stolen bases (in 13 attempts). Bourjos needs to make more contact this year if he wants to keep his batting average where it is the whole year long. Bourjos is also one of the very best defensive CF in all of baseball, as the only way to get the ball over his head is to whack it over the fence.
