The Los Angeles Angels sign Cole Armstrong
The Angels have signed 27-year old lefty swinging catcher Cole Armstrong to a minor league deal. Armstrong played in 97 games in AA-ball last season and he was 87 of 315 (.276 avg, .773 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 8 homers and 43 RBIs. He has now played in 580 games in his 8 years in the minors and he is 518 of 1,998 (.259 avg, .723 OPS) with 212 runs scored, 54 homers, 276 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Armstrong has the reputation of being a solid defensive catcher but he will be a long shot to make the Angels out of spring training.
I’m sure Armstrong will be a strong addition to the Angels line up.
Armstrong isn’t likely going to make the Angels out of spring training. I think he will start the 2011 season in AAA-ball and he’ll have to work his way to Anaheim.
I’ve seen Armstrong play for a couple of years. He’s a good defensive catcher and has a rocket arm.
