The Los Angeles Angels sign Virgil Vasquez
The Los Angeles Angels have signed 28-year old righty starting pitcher Virgil Vasquez to a minor league deal. Vasquez pitched in 13 games (all starts) in Rookie+AAA-ball last season and he was 7-2 with a 4.54 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He last pitched in the majors back in 2009 with the Pirates. He has pitched in 19 games (10 starts) in his first two years in the majors and he is 2-6 with a 6.60 ERA and a 1.76 WHIP. Vasquez has been overmatched so far in the majors as he has given up 85 hits (13 homers) in only 61 1/3 innings so far in his career. He’s going to have to earn his way to L.A. by pitching good in the minors in 2011.
