The Angels have signed 31-year old righty swinging shortstop Gil Velazquez to a minor league deal. Velazquez played in 72 games in AAA-ball last season and he was 60 of 241 (.249 avg, .644 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 1 homer, 18 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Velazquez last played in the majors in 2009 with the Red Sox. He has played in 9 games in parts of two years in the majors and he is 1 for 10 (.100 avg, .282 OPS) with 1 RBI. Velazquez will likely start the year in AAA and get a call to L.A. if the Angels need him.

Good luck to Velazquez. I know he can make it.

If he hits better he can because he’s got a good enough glove for the majors already.
