Jered Weaver is off to a good start for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Monday 12 April 2010 at 12:58 pm

Jered Weaver was really outstanding in his start over the weekend against the A’s as he looked like a real stopper. Weaver has started 2 games for the Angels so far this season and he is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. He has only given up 9 hits in 12 innings this season while whiffing 13 batters. I look for him to keep up the good work as his fastball has a lot of gettyup so far this season.

Godzilla is off to a fast start for the Los Angeles Angels

New starting DH Hideki Matsui has hit the ground running for his new team. In his first 7 games of the season, Matsui is 10 for 29 (.345 avg, 1.080 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 2 homers and 5 RBIs. Matsui is doing a good job of replacing the very popular Vladimir Guerrero at DH for the Angels and I think he will keep up the good work as long as his knees hold up. Tomorrow night, Matsui will get his World Series Ring at Yankee Stadium which should be a big night for him. Hopefully he feels at home and cranks a homer or two tomorrow night.

The Los Angeles Angels had a week to forget

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Weekly Results by chinmusic on Monday 12 April 2010 at 12:49 pm

The Angels got battered in the first week of the season as they finished up with a 2-5 record which has them tied for last place in the A.L. West with the Mariners, 3 games behind the Oakland A’s. The Angels were outscored 44-24 last week as they played all around bad baseball. Things don’t get any easier for the Angels as they travel to Yankee Stadium for a three game series starting tomorrow and then they fly to Toronto for a three game series over the weekend against the super hot Blue Jays.

The Los Angeles Angels bring up Bobby Cassevah

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, The Minors by chinmusic on Saturday 10 April 2010 at 9:22 am

The Angels have promoted 24-year old righty reliever Bobby Cassevah and demoted backup 1B/3B Robb Quinlan. The Angels didn’t waste time putting Cassevah in a game as he worked 2 1/3 shutout innings last night against the A’s allowing only 1 hit. Quinlan played in 1 game for the Angels this season and he was 0 for 1 with a whiff. Quinlan is caught in a numbers crunch as he only got sent down because he still has options left.

Brandon Wood looked like he had a hole in his bat against the Twins

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, In Need of a Slumpbuster by chinmusic on Friday 9 April 2010 at 12:37 pm

3B Bradon Wood really looked overmatched against the Twins. He played in 3 games against the Twins and he was 1 for 12 (.083 avg, .166 OPS) with 5 whiffs. The Angels will likely give Wood a long look before making a change at 3B because he has been one of their best prospects for a long time now. Still, look for Maicer Izturis to steal some of his playing time away if he continues to struggle this year. Izturis has played in 2 games for the Angels this season and he is 0 for 4 (.000 avg) with 1 RBI. The Angels really want Wood to get into gear because he has power that they really need for 2010.

The Los Angeles Angels’ starting rotation looked shaky against the Twins

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Friday 9 April 2010 at 12:33 pm

The starting rotation was supposed to be a strength for the Angels but you would never have thought that if you watched them pitch against the Twins. Joel Pineiro, Joe Saunders, Jered Weaver and Ervin Santana combined to go 1-3 with a 5.87 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP against the Twins in the season opening series. Weaver was the only one to get a win against the Twins. I fully expect the Angels’ rotation to be much better the second time around.

The Los Angeles Angels are licking their wounds after the Twins beat them up

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Weekly Results by chinmusic on Friday 9 April 2010 at 12:29 pm

The Angels are glad to see the Twins leaving Anaheim. The Angels started off 1-3 against the Twins as they were outscored 22-12! The Twins whacked 9 homers in the four game series! It doesn’t get much easier for the Angels as the hot starting Oakland A’s (3-1) come to town this weekend. The Angels need to get back to the basics as they are a better team than they showed against the Twins.

The Los Angeles Angels place a couple of players on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Tuesday 6 April 2010 at 7:16 am

The Angels have placed starting pitcher Scott Kazmir (shoulder) and outfielder Reggie Willits (strained hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list. Kazmir will likely only miss his first start and come back next week to pitch against the Yankees. Willits was in line to be the #4 outfielder for the Angels this season so they hope he gets back soon.

The over/under for Los Angeles Angels wins in 2010 is 83.5

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, If I Were A Betting Man by chinmusic on Friday 2 April 2010 at 3:39 pm

Sure the Angels lost a lot of players over the winter by they got able replacements for them. The Angels will have a battle on their hands if they want to repeat as champs of the A.L. West but they have the talent to make the playoffs again in 2010. I really love the starting rotation with Jered Weaver, Joe Saunders, Scott Kazmir, Joel Pineiro and Ervin Santanta. I also like the combo at the back end of the pen with Brian Fuentes and Fernando Rodney. Don’t forget that Scot Shields is back for 2010 lengthening the pen. The two biggest keys to the lineup are going to be keeping Hideki Matsui healthy and getting Brandon Wood to live up to his scouting reports. All in all I see the Angels finishing second in the A.L. West but missing the playoffs. I would still take the over as they will approach 90 wins in 2010.
