Jeff Mathis is off to a fast start for the Los Angeles Angels
27-year old righty swinging Jeff Mathis has taken over as the starting catcher so far this season for the Angels. He has played in 8 games for the Angels this season and he is 9 for 27 (.333 avg, .848 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 1 homer, 2 RBIs and 1 stolen base. Mathis is a good defensive catcher but his hitting has been a surprise so far this year. He has a career average of .200 with a .597 OPS in his first five years for the Angels with 20 homers. I will be watching to see if Mathis keeps up the good work with the bat because I have my doubts that he will.
