The Los Angeles Angels place outfielder Reggie Willits on the D.L.

The Angels have placed outfielder Reggie Willits on the 15-day disabled list with a concussion. He actually suffered two of them in the past week which is never a good thing. Willits has played in 56 games with the Angels this season and he is 12 for 65 (.185 avg, .565 OPS) with 16 runs scored and 5 RBIs. The Angels have recalled infielder Sean Rodriguez to take Willits’ spot on the active roster. Rodriguez has played in 22 games for the Angels this season and he is 12 for 65 (.185 avg, .523 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs. This won’t effect the Angels much as neither Willits or Rodriguez was going to play much this season.

I was hoping Willits would get more AB’s against righties and somewhat platoon with Rivera, but give Rivera more AB’s. Rivera started slow probably because of past injuries, but has come on of late. Willits offers more speed and defense. However, it hasn’t worked out that way and Rivera is playing solid. The offence has come on the last month or so and the pitching is usually solid. Things are looking good for the future.

I have always liked Juan Rivera as a hitter and the Angels were smart to start playing him over Mr. HGH. I like Willits too but he projects more as a extra outfielder off the bench in my book.
