The Angels have placed starting 2B Howie Kendrick on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. Kendrick is a outstanding major league hitter but he’s proving to be very brittle. He has played in 86 games this season for the Angels and he is 100 for 325 (.308 avg, .762 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 3 homers, 37 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Brandon Wood has been called up to replace Kendrick on the roster and the Angels hope he’s ready to live up to his potential this time around. Wood has played in 103 games in AAA ball this season and he is 117 for 395 (.296 avg, .970 OPS) with 82 runs scored, 31 homers, 84 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. But, Wood has been awful this season for the Angels. He has played in 30 games for the Angels this season and he is 8 for 68 (.118 avg, .331 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 2 RBIs. Wood has also whiffed 21 times in only 68 at bats for the Angels this season and that just won’t get it done.
