The Los Angeles Angels place Howie Kendrick on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Saturday 30 August 2008 at 1:16 am

The Angels have placed starting 2B Howie Kendrick on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring. Kendrick is a outstanding major league hitter but he’s proving to be very brittle. He has played in 86 games this season for the Angels and he is 100 for 325 (.308 avg, .762 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 3 homers, 37 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Brandon Wood has been called up to replace Kendrick on the roster and the Angels hope he’s ready to live up to his potential this time around. Wood has played in 103 games in AAA ball this season and he is 117 for 395 (.296 avg, .970 OPS) with 82 runs scored, 31 homers, 84 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. But, Wood has been awful this season for the Angels. He has played in 30 games for the Angels this season and he is 8 for 68 (.118 avg, .331 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 2 RBIs. Wood has also whiffed 21 times in only 68 at bats for the Angels this season and that just won’t get it done.

The Los Angeles Angels place Maicer Izturis on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Friday 15 August 2008 at 4:32 pm

The Angels have placed infielder Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list with a left thumb injury. Izturis has played in 79 games for the Angels this season and he is 78 for 290 (.269 avg, .691 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 3 homers, 37 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. This injury means that Erick Aybar will get to play everyday at shortstop for the Angels until Izturis is ready to come back. Aybar has played in 75 games for the Angels this season and he is 75 for 262 (.286 avg, .721 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 3 homers, 30 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. The Angels have recalled 1B Kendry Morales to replace Izturis on the roster. The Angels would be smart to get Morales some at bats at DH because he has been ripping the ball in the minors this season. Morales has played in 75 games in Rookie Ball+AAA and he is 108 for 308 (.351 avg, .943 OPS) with 45 runs scored, 15 homers and 68 RBIs. Morales has also appeared in 1 game for the Angels this season and he is 0 for 1.

Mark Teixeira is off to a hot start for the Los Angeles Angels

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Playing Well by chinmusic on Tuesday 12 August 2008 at 2:22 am

Mark Teixeira has hit the ground running for the Angels. In his first 11 games with the Angels, Teixeira is 13 for 40 (.325 avg, .965 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 2 homers and 9 RBIs. He seems to be making the whole lineup better as the Angels have been scoring a ton of runs and it hasn’t mattered who has been pitching. This was a great pickup for the Angels who look like they are clearly the best team in baseball right now.

The Los Angeles Angels activate Mike Napoli from the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General by chinmusic on Saturday 9 August 2008 at 7:32 pm

The Angels have activated Mike Napoli from the disabled list and they have sent Ryan Budde back to AAA. Napoli has played in 47 games for the Angels this season and he is 29 for 142 (.204 avg, .780 OPS) with 17 runs scored, 12 homers, 29 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. This should make Jeff Mathis somewhat happy as he might be worn out right now as he has started every game except 1 while Napoli was out. Mathis has played in 73 games for the Angels this season and he is 47 for 222 (.212 avg, .671 OPS) with 30 runs scored, 9 homers and 39 RBIs. Ryan Budde didn’t get much of a chance to show what he could do this time around for the Angels. He played in 6 games and he was only 0 for 2 for the Angels. The Angels will likely recall him in September when rosters expand.

The Los Angeles Angels place outfielder Reggie Willits on the D.L.

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by chinmusic on Saturday 9 August 2008 at 7:28 pm

The Angels have placed outfielder Reggie Willits on the 15-day disabled list with a concussion. He actually suffered two of them in the past week which is never a good thing. Willits has played in 56 games with the Angels this season and he is 12 for 65 (.185 avg, .565 OPS) with 16 runs scored and 5 RBIs. The Angels have recalled infielder Sean Rodriguez to take Willits’ spot on the active roster. Rodriguez has played in 22 games for the Angels this season and he is 12 for 65 (.185 avg, .523 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs. This won’t effect the Angels much as neither Willits or Rodriguez was going to play much this season.
