The Los Angeles Angels expect more from their 1B in 2008

25-year old Casey Kotchman made huge strides last season for the Angels but he missed a lot of time due to injury. He’s one of the smoothest defenders in the game and he showed a good stick for average. His power is still sub-par for the 1B position but he has potential to improve. He played in 137 games last season for the Angels and he was 131 for 443 (.296 avg, .839 OPS) with 64 runs scored, 11 homers and 68 RBIs. Look for him to have a solid season if he can just stay healthy in 2008.

31-year old righty swinger Robb Quinlan can play either 1B or 3B defensively but he’s a little below par at each one. Quinlan played in 79 games for the Angels last season and he was 44 for 178 (.247 avg, .652 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 3 homers and 21 RBIs. Quinlan is a career .290 hitter (.771 OPS) in 313 games so the Angels expect him to play better this season.

25-year old switch hitting Kendry Morales is a highly thought of prospect but he just hasn’t broken through in the majors quite yet. He played in 43 games last season for the Angels and he was 35 for 119 (.294 avg, .812 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 4 homers and 15 RBIs. Morales will likely only get a lot of playing time this season if Kotchman gets injured but he still has big time potential.

PROJECTED GRADE FOR THE 2008 SEASON: C
