The Angels ran into a buzzsaw last night in Boston called Josh Beckett. Beckett threw a 4-hit, complete game shutout against the Angels and you had a feeling that it was going to be a long night for the Angels early in this game. Only Vladimir Guerrero (2/4), Howie Kendrick (1/3) and Chone Figgins (1 for 4) managed hits last night against Beckett. John Lackey had a rough night as he gave up homers to Kevin Youkilis (1st inning) and David Oritz (3rd inning). He worked 6 innings last night and he allowed 9 hits, 4 earned runs, walked 2 batters and whiffed 4 as he was the losing pitcher in Game #1. Ervin Santana relieved Lackey and he was outstanding as he threw 2 hitless innings and he whiffed 2 batters. The Red Sox are now up 1-0 in this series.
