The Los Angeles Angels will be without a couple players for the opening round of the playoffs
The Angels will be without starting centerfielder Gary Matthews (sore left knee) and Bartolo Colon (right elbow) for the series with the Red Sox. Matthews will be missed more for his defense than his offense. Matthews played in 140 games this season for the Angels and he was 130 of 516 (.252 avg, .742 OPS) with 79 runs scored, 18 homers, 72 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. Bartolo Colon wasn’t going to make the rotation for the first round of the playoffs anyway so it makes perfect sense to let him rest his sore right elbow. Colon pitched in 19 games (18 starts) this season for the Angels and he was 6-8 with a 6.34 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP.
