28 year old lefty swinging Nathan Haynes is on fire with a bat in his hands. In 29 games, Haynes is 45 for 114 (.395 avg, 1.074 OPS) with 20 runs scored, 3 homers, 24 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. If Haynes keeps hitting like he is right now, the Angels might have no choice but to call him up at some point.

The Los Angeles Angels place Justin Speier on the DL

The Angels have placed Justin Speier on the 15-day disabled list with really nasty flu-like symptoms. Hopefully the Angels will get Speier back soon as he’s pitched very well out of their bullpen. They will need Hector Carrasco and Darren Oliver to step up and fill the void left in their bullpen without Speier.

Hector Carrasco a little bit off so far this season for the Los Angeles Angels

Hector Carrasco hasn’t pitched near as well as he did last season for the Angels so far this season. He’s 0-1 with a 4.96 ERA and a 1.84 WHIP this season. Carrasco’s main problem is that he’s been pretty wild so far this season as he’s walked 12 batters in only 16.1 innings. If Carrasco can fix his control he will get back to being a good pitcher out of the bullpen for the Angels.

Justin Speier has been lights out so far for the Angels this season. He has a 0-0 record with a 1.69 ERA and a 0.75 WHIP so far this season. In 16 innings this season, Speier has only allowed 7 hits while whiffing 17 batters. With Scot Shields and Francisco Rodriguez behind him, Speier helps shorten the Angels games by another inning with his fine work out of the bullpen.

The Los Angeles Angels place Garrett Anderson on the DL

The Angels have placed Garrett Anderson on the 15-day disabled list with a tear in his right hip flexor tendon. He will likely miss at least a month while he recovers from this injury. Anderson has played in 23 games this season and he is 25 for 95 (.263 avg, .664 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 1 homer and 10 RBIs. Reggie Willits will likely take Anderson’s spot in the lineup.
